Falls Memorial Lab is a fully accredited department from the College of American Pathologists and as part of the Hospital's JCAHO accreditation. All department practices and procedures meet the rigorous standards from both accrediting agencies.
The Laboratory provides services in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, and blood banking. The laboratory is electronically connected with other departments utilizing the hospital information system. Physician orders for laboratory procedures are entered and reported electronically. Physicians have the ability to access patient results electronically from their offices.
Some specialty laboratory tests not able to be performed at Falls Memorial Hospital are sent to a reference laboratory. Results of these tests are reported through the hospital to the physician. Another outside agency that interacts closely with the hospital laboratory is the regional blood center. Our agencies work together to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood products.
The laboratory staff works closely with the pathologist to ensure that the tests offered support the needs of the medical staff. Over the past year, the laboratory has added new tests for patients suspected of having a heart attack, and rapid testing for strep throat, viral testing for upper respiratory infection, and testing for bacterial diarrhea.
Laboratory services are available 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Business hours are between 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day of the week. |
